What is Face Lifting?
It is a surgical operation performed to treat undesirable changes, such as saggy and wrinkles due to ageing. It is usually applied after the ages of 45-50. In order to gain a fresher and more attractive look, the operation can be accompanied with eyelid surgery, fat injection, skin peeling, laser and botox etc.

Who undergoes face lifting?
Patients above 45 who complain about the undesirable changes on their face due to ageing and who don’t have any conditions or disorders that would prevent them from undergoing anaesthesia can have face lift.

How is the assessment process prior to operation?
Complaints and expectations of the patient are evaluated during examination. Patients are advised to have realistic expectations and they are asked to bring a photo from their youth when coming for examination.

What should be done prior to surgery?
As in all plastic surgeries, the patient should quit smoking minimum two weeks prior to the operation and should also avoid smoking for two weeks after the operation. Anticoagulant drugs, such as Aspirin etc. should be quitted minimum 10 days before the operation. The patient should discontinue any other medication or dietary supplement (medication that include Ginseng, CoQ, Gingko Bloba etc.) 1 week before the surgery. The patient should also disclose any other significant condition to their surgeon.

What is the surgery technique?
In this operation, incision lines are hidden in the contour of the ear. If needed, the lines can be hidden under the hairline. The skin covering the neck and the face is lifted, and SMAS, which also includes our mimic muscles and gives the volume to our face, is reshaped in a 3-D volumetric way. Excessive skin tissue is removed to ensure a younger, fresher and more attractive look.

What to expect after face lift surgery:
At the end of the procedure, silicon tubes (drains) are placed in the operated region in order to prevent blood accumulation inside. After the operation, the patient stays in hospital for one night. The following day the drains are removed and the patient is discharged. If the sutures on face are not degradable, they are removed on the seventh day. Patients might experience a feeling of tightness and pressure on face rather than pain, but this is a temporary condition. Patients can resume work after 1 week or 10 days. At the end of the second month, the full result of the surgery will be apparent. The recovery period is 6 to 12 months.
