What is Body Shaping - Liposuction?
It is the absorption and removal of the fat accumulated in some areas of the body, using tiny cannulas. Body shaping can be performed during the same session by injecting the fat tissue taken out from other parts of the body. Liposuction is a body shaping operation rather than a weight loss formula.
Who undergoes Body Shaping - Liposuction?
Young patients who have persistent localized fat after diet or sports, with good skin elasticity and not too much skin looseness can undergo this operation.
What should be done prior to surgery?
As in all aesthetic surgical operations, the person to undergo this surgery should quit smoking minimum two weeks before the operation and should also avoid smoking for two weeks after the operation. Anticoagulant drugs such as Aspirin etc. should be quitted minimum 10 days before the operation. Any permanently used drugs or dietary supplements (including Ginseng, CoQ, Gingko Bloba etc.) shall necessarily be quitted 1 week before the operation. The patient should also inform the doctor about any other significant condition.
What is the surgery technique?
These operations are performed in operating rooms under local anaesthesia and using heavy sedatives or under general anaesthesia. 2-4 mm long incisions are made at natural curves that can reach at the marked areas of the body. Solutions that reduce bleeding and pain killer medications are applied to the intended area. Then laser is used to help break down the fat more easily. The heat energy of the laser both helps to reduce bleeding and ensures a tighter skin in the healing period. At the third stage of the operation, tiny cannulas are used to remove the fat. If body shaping will be performed as well, the removed fat are processed and transferred to necessary areas. Incisions are kept open at the end of the operation or are closed with a single suture. The patient is dressed with girdle at the end of the operation.
What to expect after Body Shaping – Liposuction:
If the process has been applied on smaller areas, the patient can go home the same day. If the process has been applied on larger areas and more fat has been removed, the patient may have to stay in the hospital for one night. Liquid may come from the liposuction holes on the first day. Patients can have a bath two days after the procedure. It is advised to use a post-surgical girdle day and night for the first three weeks. There might be slight bruising and pain that can be taken under control with pain-killers. Most of the oedema reduces at the end of the second month. It may take up to 6 months to 1 year for the body to find its final shape.
